Well today is results day and so I have a excuse to post my blog, results are as follows:

CS31310 AGILE METHODOLOGIES 75
CS33110 SM REAL-TIME SYSTEMS 87
CS35110 INTERNET: ARCH+OP 75
CS35710 UBIQUITOUS COMPUTING 69
CS39400 MAJOR PROJECT N/A
SE31410 SERVER-SE SOFTWARE 84

I’m pretty pleased with them, would have been nice to bump Uniquitous up into the 70s though.

I also have my result for my industrial year back I got 79.

Final year project goes on, it’s an epic world of testing at the moment.

As a side note my wordpress install seems to have been hacked at some point over the last month, I’ve now patched it up to date with the latest version and re-imported the data, so hopefully we should be good for the time being!

Module choices

October 1st, 2008 by Jona
Respond

Well we’re nearly a week into term so I’ve completed registration and all the usual start of year faffing. This means that my module choice has finally been confirmed:

Semester 1:

CS31310 AGILE METHODOLOGIES
CS33110 SM REAL-TIME SYSTEMS
CS35110 INTERNET: ARCH+OP
CS35710 UBIQUITOUS COMPUTING
CS39400 MAJOR PROJECT
SE31410 SERVER-SIDE SOFTWARE

Semester 2:

CS35910 INTERNET ADMIN
CS38010 PROF ISSUES-SOFT ENG
CS39440 MAJOR PROJECT
SE33010 FORMAL METHODS IN SO

CS39440 is actually a 10, 30 credit split over the two semesters giving me a balanced 60 credits each term. So far this term my modules seem fairly intresting. I think SE31410 being purely assignment assessed is going to very hard work in a semester with a lot of final year project stuff going on. Most of the other modules are nearly 100% exam based. Ubiquitous computing does have a pre-exam research exercise which we’re then allowed to take notes on into the exam.

In contrast to the sun of last week, this week the weather has turned very windy with some cold and wet! Our house is pretty chilly at the moment!

A blog post, shock, horror!

Well I havn’t blogged for just over a year which is a bit poor really. I’ve now finished my industrial year and am back in Aberystwyth as a student. Currently living in PJM which is the student village. Living with Ade & Lee who are mates from computer science who have also been off on industrial years and have now also returned.

I’ve spent the day on campus filling in various university related forms, visiting freshers fayre and finishing off my industrial year report. Getting a parking permit was slightly chaotic. I first went at 8.30 and there was lots of people hanging around but no obvious queuing system, by 9 it was just a mob surrounding the desk! By 10.30 there was a queue of 3 people, so my advice is for parking permits is go on the first day.

Tommorow I have some website work to do on jonahosting.com and jonayoung.info, its also the sports fayre so I might go over to that, although I suspect I will be too busy this year to join sports clubs. I also have to finalize my module choice before going to registration on Wednesday.
Hopefully it will be less than a year before my next blog post!

Summer

Respond

My summer has unfortunatly finished and it’s real work for me (more details another day). It’s been quite busy, I did the usual work at Glebelands and Coreware.
My project at Coreware was a very intresting youtube clone in which I used linux to take any source video upload it and convert it to an .flv and then stream it using red5. Nothing in terms of the tools was that unique and it was all open source except for the player which was found off the net. Unfortunatly I can’t really write technical specifics about how I did it as its propriatory infomation.

Apart from work I had a couple of weeks holiday including: a weekend on a canal boat with Gem’s family. A week in the lake district with My Family, the Sharps and the Milways! A week at peak adventure which I spent most of kayaking instructing and we had a visit from the ever lovely AALA.

Which when you put it like that makes it seem a pretty busy summer! Still enough blogging for the time being….

Results Term 2

Respond

Yeh I know I’m useless at blogging… blah, etc.

Just a quick one, results came out today and to save lots of people asking they are as follows:

CS21120 PROGRAM DESIGN 69
CS22120 SOFT DEV LIFE CYCLE 72
CS22310 DES+HUMAN COMP INTER 70
CS25610 THE INTERNET:TEL APP 76
CS25710 MOBILE, EMBEDDED AND 86
CS27020 DATABASE MANAGEMENT 75

Which is alright, as I suspect I didn’t do that well in Richard Shipman’s cs211 module. Pleased with the group project mark (cs221) and also my databases mark especially as I’m going to spend most of next year playing with the databases.

Databases, much work and the outdoor show!

March 22nd, 2007 by Jona
Respond

Greetings bloggies… Just a quick update on the world of Jona…. Still working stupidly hard (and will be until the end of term). I got my paper on CPU Scheduling in which is quite a relief, I wrote it using latex, which is actually pretty nice and easy to use compared to how much hassle the word template was.

Tomorow I have a riviting report on battery charging due in for Mobile and wearable technology. For the end of term I have two databases assignments due which involve implementing an actual database in Oracle, it has some pretty evil parts mainly to do with trying to enforce integrity constraints on concurrent insert (told you it was evil!). As well as this I have to start some doing some research and maybe read some books (shock, horror!) for my professional ethics in hacking essay. Which I’m supposed to write over easter.

Aside from work I’m quite busy, last weekend I went to the outdoor show at the NEC in Birmingham with Gem. Which was good although as in previous years a lack of climbing stall’s I thought but perhaphs I just didn’t look hard enough. I brought a new dry bag and rescue knife. It was quite an epic day we went on the train which meant it took forever, we also ended up taking a random diversion via Wolverhampton. To see Gem’s family and pick up her new fleece (see it was random!).
This week is the St Mike’s Mission, which I’m not that involved with, mainly because I have so much work on, but the CU are running “jazz cafe’s” in the chapel at lunchtime and I’m also planning to goto the uber service(tm) on sunday evening in the great hall.

I finish for easter next friday and currently planning to drive home on the saturday. I’m working three weeks for Coreware which should be good fun although means I don’t get a whole deal of time off over easter.

Anyway I think I’ve put off doing databases for long enough to must return to it……

Exam Results, etc

March 3rd, 2007 by Jona
Respond

Greetings blog people! Its been a shockingly long time since I wrote anything but what ya gonna do really?!? :P

I still have so much work its quite unfunny. I current have to do: 2 x database assignments (although they were set yesterday and aren’t due until the end of term). 1 x Computer algorithms assignment which involves writing a scientific paper about  CPU scheduling which I’m not loving and 1 x HCI (Human Computer Interaction/interface).

I did however get my exam results for the January exams. I got 66 in C and Unix and 73 in Computer hardware. Which is a bit bizzare because I thought I would be the other way round but as we haven’t had ANY coursework marks back from C and Unix I don’t know which bits I didn’t do so well on.

I don’t have anything else that interesting to write about except to continue the tradition of mentioning the weather it is currently sunny in Aberystwyth despite what the BBC website said last night.

coding week

January 28th, 2007 by Jona
Respond

Well I’ve had quite a nice week off this week. I haven’t done a lot of work except for a small amount of planning for this weeks “coding week”. I haven’t got very far with the GPS phone programming as my phone and GPS device won’t work with the sample program we’ve been given. So that will have to be done this week.

We’ll be working 9am to 6pm on campus which is going to be pretty hardcore, I reckon the whole area around computer science, especially the computer rooms could be pretty hectic!

Hopefully it will be a good week but it does have potential for chaos and disaster and could be quite stressful!!!
